“It should be you who have that serious illness! It should be you who should die!” The man bent down and said the most hurtful words in her ears with his drunk eyes. What he did not know was that her death was imminent.

Chapter 1 It Would Only Get Worse

Lydia covered her belly with her hand and climbed out of the bed with difficulty.

The moonlight which was shining into the room through the window made her face look paler.

The footsteps Lydia was quite familiar with came from outside the door. It was Edward Evans.

Lydia, though weak, turned the door handle with all her might and opened the door.

"Edward." Calling his name alone cost almost all of her strength.

Edward stopped and turned his hand back, looking with his cold eyes at the thinly dressed woman.

"I am glad you are finally back. Have you had dinner?" It could be told from Lydia's voice that she was trying to please him.

Her beautiful eyes even lit up the moment she saw him. That was hope in her eyes.

Edward's expression was still cold and indifferent and then he walked away, ignoring Lydia.

What Edward did really made Lydia's heartache as if it had been penetrated through.

Lydia caught up with Edward and tugged on his sleeve. She bit her lips so hard that they started bleeding. The throbbing pain in her stomach made it almost impossible for her to catch her breath.

"Get rid of me!" The hatred in Edward's eyes was deep.

Lydia opened her hand a little bit, only daring to grab a tiny part of his coat.

"Edward, I hurt..so much...," her voice trembled, "It's so late. Could you send me to the hospital?"

If it were daytime now, Lydia wouldn't have bothered him.

"Where does it hurt?" Edward turned around and stared at her fixedly.

"My stomach hurt," replied Lydia. Cold sweat was all over her forehead.

Edward lowered his head, took a glance at her hand covering her stomach, and sneered coldly, "Miss. Clark, your acting skills are really getting better and better. How long have you practiced your act?"

He raised his hand and pulled his sleeve out of her hand.

Edward pinched her jaw, "From the day you betrayed me, I had sworn I would never forgive you in my life, unless," he revealed a cruel smile, "you go to die."

The blood in Lydia's body seemed to stop at this moment and she couldn't stop shivering at all. Edward no longer looked at her and then went straight into his bedroom, closing the door.

Lydia fell to her knees in pain as if there was a knife twisting in her stomach.

While trembling, she took out her cell phone and called the ambulance.

The sound of the ambulance faded into the distance. Edward's face was still cold and indifferent. In his eyes, Lydia was the kind of woman who would do whatever it took to achieve her goals.

Edward believed Lydia was acting again in front of him because her family's company was about to go bankrupt.

Back then, when he was down and out, this woman just ignored him and looked for another man to depend on. This woman would not allow herself to live a life of misery. She was very snobbery, Edward thought.

...

Lydia sat on the bench in the hospital, holding her test results. Her gaze fell blankly on the white wall.

The test results said she was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer.

Lydia took a taxi to the hospital where Stanley Collins worked. After Stanley received Lydia's call, he went to the hospital entrance to wait for her.

Lydia's eyes were red and she showed a smile at Stanley.

"Stanley," She squeezed the test result in her hand tightly, "I got my result. I am diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer."

Stanley's face changed immediately.

Her nose twitched and she looked at Stanley like begging, "Please give me a check again. Will there be a mistake?"

Stanley was an expert in gastroenterology.

Lydia, on the hospital bed, was pushed into the examination room.

At five o' clock in the afternoon, the test result came out. It was the same as the initial diagnosis.

Lydia indeed had terminal bowel cancer.

Lydia sat there dumbfounded and her lips opened and closed over and over again before she asked, "How long can I live?"

Stanley squatted down, with his bony hands pressing Lydia's shoulders, "Lydia, I can save you."

"But it is cancer," Lydia's tears fell nonstop, "It is cancer."

The disease she had was like her marriage with Edward. It would only get worse, Lydia thought.
